So much to do at Forest Oaks…

Forest Oaks has a full weekly activities programme offering something for everyone whatever their needs or abilities. In addition to organised activities there are times set aside for our activities team to visit residents in their rooms for one-to-one support. The activity plan changes each week and will include both in-house activities and external entertainers and speakers visiting the home.

Sue Winter is our full time Activities Co-ordinator and she is assisted by Agnes Lorek on a part-time basis. Their knowledge of each resident and their particular likes and dislikes is essential to ensure that a fully inclusive activity programme is maintained.

Sue and Agnes are very popular members of the team at Forest Oaks and go above and beyond to ensure all residents are involved as much as they wish.

Generally, the most popular activities at Forest Oaks include local choirs such as Octavius and the Sway Singers in addition to entertainers such as Paul Nicholas and Cosmic Sparkle. Team Scrabble matches are popular and also gentle exercise classes such as Tai Chi and armchair yoga. Forest Oaks also has a regular visit from Merlin, the Pets as Therapy Dog, who is always a welcome visitor to the home.

In addition, the activities team support residents to visit local community groups and cafes. Outside trips to the forest and local attractions are also available from time to time. The residents have enjoyed a couple of trips on the river aboard the Alison Mcgregor.

Each month the local church visit the home to hold Holy Communion for residents who wish to attend.

Themed lunches are planned each month where the activities team work with the kitchen team to produce a fun and tasty lunch based on a chosen theme such as Chinese New Year, Bonfire Night or St George’s Day.

Holidays are celebrated at the home and Christmas is an especially busy time of year at Forest Oaks with visiting choirs, crafts and raffles and more.
